Newnan, Ga. (October 29, 2012) – Piedmont Newnan Hospital recently was named the 2012 Small Hospital of the Year by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals, making this the second consecutive year a Piedmont Healthcare-affiliated hospital has earned this distinction. Piedmont Mountainside Hospital received the award in 2011.
“It is an honor to have another one of our community hospitals named a Hospital of the Year,” said Patrick Battey, M.D., interim CEO of Piedmont Healthcare. “Our hospitals are valuable resources within the communities they serve and the fact we’ve earned this distinction two years in a row speaks volumes of our commitment to patient safety and satisfaction, and quality of care.”
Piedmont Newnan was recognized for its demonstrated commitment to increased access to quality healthcare for underserved populations, a large expansion of much-needed services, and a seamless transition to a new, state-of-the-art facility. Expanded clinical services include a new interventional radiology suite, neonatal intensive care unit, a soon-to-open center for neuroscience and several new physicians. These expansions will better meet the needs of the community, particularly critically underserved populations. Piedmont Newnan also provided $443,000 in free services, including laboratory and x-rays and cancer screenings.
“The Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals is proud to recognize Piedmont Newnan for its contributions to the Newnan community,” said Alliance President Monty Veazey. “Our state’s not-for-profit hospitals are committed to improving the health of their communities and being able to draw special attention to their commitment, innovation and dedication is a tremendous honor for the Alliance.”
In May of last year, Piedmont Newnan moved to a new facility situated on 105 acres, and on September 15, the facility was honored with a Citation Award during Modern Healthcare’s 27th annual Design Awards. Since settling in, Piedmont has continued providing excellent care and support for the local community. Working with 14 different organizations, including the local chamber of commerce and various nonprofit groups, the hospital provides free educational materials and screenings at health fairs and recently provided $10,000 to Coweta County School Systems to educate high school students about careers in healthcare education.
